Meet the Maker
Hey SHYNE Sister!
My name is Alexis and I’m the woman behind SHYNE Body Butter. Since I was a child, I have struggled with skin issues such as dryness and eczema. After giving up on the commercial brands, I started making my own skincare products using ingredients sourced from Mama Nature herself. My skincare practice soon became a holistic one - I incorporated essential oils into my products, harnessing the power of aromatherapy for its mental and spiritual benefits.
I am a firm believer in the Ghanaian principle “sankofa”, which encourages us to reach back to knowledge gained in the past and bring it into the present in order to make progress. As an Afro-Caribbean woman, the crimes of colonization have severed us from the very practices that empowered and sustained those who came before us. Through SHYNE, I seek to reclaim my power and purpose by reconnecting with the natural world through mindful skincare.
